Properties & Functions

Functions: Tonifies the womb and warms the lower jiao, regulates menstruation, hastens postpartum recovery, supports female vitality

Indications:

  • Postpartum weakness and slow uterine involution
  • Irregular and painful menstruation
  • Low libido and fertility difficulties in women
  • Perimenopausal hot flushes and fatigue
  • Vaginal laxity and excessive postpartum discharge
  • General weakness and poor appetite in women

Usage & Prescriptions

Dosage: Dried whole plant 5-10g, decoct in water for 30-60 minutes. Standardized extract 200-400mg daily. Traditionally used as postpartum bath herb.

Postpartum tonic

Kacip Fatimah 8g, red dates 5 pcs, simmer 45 minutes, drink daily for 30 days

Painful periods with cold womb

Kacip Fatimah 6g, dong quai 6g, ginger 3 slices, decoct

Perimenopausal symptoms

Kacip Fatimah 10g, decoct twice weekly as long-course tonic

Kacip Fatimah Postpartum Tonic Brew

Traditional Malay confinement drink given to new mothers from the second week postpartum to restore strength and tighten the womb

Servings: Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • Dried Kacip Fatimah whole plant 8g
  • Red dates, pitted, 6 pcs
  • Goji berries 1 tbsp
  • Brown sugar or gula melaka 15g
  • Water 800ml

Instructions:

  1. 1.Rinse the dried herb and red dates
  2. 2.Bring to a boil, then simmer covered for 45 minutes
  3. 3.Add goji berries in the last 5 minutes
  4. 4.Stir in brown sugar to taste
  5. 5.Strain and drink warm once daily, in a 30-day course

Caution

Strictly avoid during pregnancy as it stimulates uterine contraction. Not suitable for those with hormone-sensitive cancers (breast, uterine, ovarian). Discontinue before surgery due to mild estrogenic activity.
