Properties & Functions

Functions: Tonifies kidney yang, strengthens qi and lifts vitality, dispels wind-damp and relieves fatigue

Indications:

  • Male sexual weakness, low libido, erectile dysfunction
  • Fatigue, low energy, post-illness debility
  • Low testosterone and andropause symptoms
  • Joint aches and rheumatic pain from wind-damp
  • Persistent low-grade fever, malaria-type fevers (folk use)
  • Poor appetite and weak digestion in convalescence

Usage & Prescriptions

Dosage: Dried root 4-8g, decoct in water; or standardized extract 200-400mg daily. Often simmered for 1-2 hours as a long brew.

Tongkat Ali Tonic Coffee

Popular Malaysian roadside tonic drink that masks the bitter root with rich coffee, taken by men as a midday pick-me-up

Servings: Serves 2

Ingredients:

  • Dried Tongkat Ali root chips 5g
  • Black coffee powder 1 tbsp
  • Brown sugar or gula melaka to taste
  • Water 500ml
  • Sweetened condensed milk, optional

Instructions:

  1. 1.Rinse the root chips and simmer in water for 60 minutes
  2. 2.Add coffee powder to the bitter brew and steep 3 minutes
  3. 3.Strain through a fine sieve into a cup
  4. 4.Sweeten with brown sugar or condensed milk
  5. 5.Drink warm, no more than once daily

Caution

Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Not for use in prostate cancer, heart disease, or with diabetes/blood-pressure medications without supervision. May raise testosterone; not suitable for children.
